Shifting Focus from Why to How
8/4/20251 min read

We have been focusing on separation of mind, body, and soul in an attempt to solve our complex problems. We have devoted so many resources to diagnosing the problem (the why) with a rising degree of specificity. Our thought process has been the closer we get to figuring out the problem, the better we will become at solving it. But most problems are multi-faceted, multi-layered, and ultimately multi-generationally patterned. Our technologies can pinpoint the exact mechanism of action of such problems, but cannot heal, as the problems are passed down generationally through unresolved trauma.
“Trauma decontextualized in a person looks like personality. Trauma decontextualized in a family looks like family traits. Trauma decontextualized in people looks like culture.” Dr. Resmaa Menakem, MSW, LICSW, SEP, My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Pathway to Mending Our Hearts and Bodies
Chi for Two® Embodiment Coaches create a sense of safety that makes it possible for inhibited moves to come up through Fight/Flight and join the Ventral Vagal Pathway also called Play/Dance. It is ideal for one inhibited move at a time to come up and out of Shut-down and integrate into the Play/Dance state for our healing journey. When one move at a time moves from Shut-down through Fight/Flight to Play/Dance at one's own pace it is akin to the way we first learn how to hold up our heads, sit on our own, crawl, talk, and walk if we had gotten what was relationally ideal. But multi-generational trauma has prevented us from experiencing what was ideal when we were new to the world and our brains were first developing. Chi for Two Embodiment Coaches help us re-pattern our nervous systems allowing us to take up more space. Chi for Two coaches promote safety in our bodies so we can explore because there is so much more out there than feeling confined to the matrix of our minds.

"When we do practices seeking presence, deep urges for support get stirred." Caroline Gebhardt, co-developer of Chi for Two®
